Jim Furyk two-putted the 18th green to card a PGA Tour lowest score record 58, after setting the nine-hole record with an 8-under 27 in Sunday's final round of the Travelers Championship.

Furyk holed out for an eagle on the 419-yard, par-4 No. 3 hole and rolled in 10 birdies -- including seven straight from Nos. 6-12 -- on his historic round.

"Late in that front nine I had a special feeling and when you turn in 27 you can't help but think about it, especially on a par-70 golf course," Furyk told The Golf Channel. "Then to turn around and make the putts at 10, 11, 12 and already be 11-under par with six to play, then it just became a little bit of a mental game."

His birdie putt on No. 16 dropped him to the historic 58 number, and he parred the final two holes as a large gallery cheered him on.

Six other golfers had shot a 59 on tour, most recently Furyk in the third round of the 2013 BMW Championship.

Two other professionals have recorded 58s: Germany's Stephan Jaeger on the Web.com Tour in this year's Ellie Mae Clasic and Japan's Ryo Ishikawa on the Japan Golf Tour at the 2010 The Crowns.

"There's a lot of rounds by a lot of great players ahead of me that have never reached 58, so to hold that record alone right now - on the PGA Tour at least - is phenomenal," Furyk said. "A little small place of history is something that you dream of."

Furyk's 27 on the front nine bested the Travelers Championship nine-hole record by two shots.

It was one shot off the PGA Tour's nine-hole record of 26, set by Corey Pavin in the opening round of the 2006 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee. The last nine-hole 27 on tour was carded by Ryan Palmer at the 2015 CareerBuilder Challenge.

Furyk began the day 16 shots behind leader Daniel Berger (15-under 195) in 70th place at 1-over 211 after opening 73-66-71, but pulled into solo fifth after finishing at 11-under 269.

Furyk, the world No. 24, won the 2003 U.S. Open and is a 17-time winner on the PGA Tour. He last won at the RBC Heritage in 2015, and he ranks 118th in the FedExCup standings (427 points).
