Nov. 26 (UPI) -- The University of North Carolina is close to naming Mack Brown its next football coach.

Sources told 247 Sports that the Tar Heels have reached a deal with Brown to fill the vacancy and an announcement is expected on Tuesday. Brown has already began assembling his staff, according to that report.

A source told Stadium that the deal between North Carolina and Brown is "not done yet." Another source told Stadium that North Carolina is the only program Brown is considering for a return to coaching.

Brown, 67, manned the sidelines at Texas for 16 seasons before announcing his Longhorns resignation in 2013. He posted a 158-48 record, including a national championship and 10-5 bowl record while with the Longhorns.

Before joining Texas, Brown coached for 10 seasons at North Carolina. He coached at Tulane prior to his Tar Heels tenure.

Brown owned a 69-46-1 record as the Tar Heels' coach. He was 3-2 in bowl games at North Carolina. The Tar Heels fired coach Larry Fedora on Sunday after he posted a 45-43 record in seven seasons in Chapel Hill.
