Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley nets contract extension

Oklahoma and current Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley agreed to a contract extension Tuesday, the Oklahoman reported.

Although the extension is only for one year, it will also provide a raise of $1 million for Riley in the upcoming 2018 season.

Riley will receive annual increases of $100,000 for the contract that will run through January 2023. The total value of the five years remaining on the deal is worth $25 million.

Taking over the program last season following the retirement of Bob Stoops, Riley guided the Sooners to a 12-2 record in 2017. Oklahoma won the Big 12 Conference title and advanced to the national semifinal, losing to Georgia 54-48 in the Rose Bowl.

Riley, 34, had served as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma in the previous two seasons before succeeding Stoops, providing top-10 offenses nationally in both years.

He was an assistant coach for five seasons at East Carolina before joining the Sooners in the 2015 season.
