Middle Tennessee redshirt junior wide receiver Richie James will enter the 2018 NFL draft, he announced on social media Sunday. NFLDraftScout.com rates James as the 13th-best junior receiver, with a fifth-round grade.
The speedy James has been one of the more intriguing offensive skill players from among teams in the Group of Five conferences. He posted 108 catches for 1,346 yards as a freshman in 2015, and he followed up a season later with 105 receptions for 1,625 yards, which ranked fourth in the nation.
James (5-foot-9, 176 pounds) never got on track this season, as he was bothered by an ankle injury that limited him to five games and 31 receptions.
He leaves as the school's career leader in receiving yards with 3,261, among his multiple school records. He also rushed for 542 yards on 60 carries for the Blue Raiders.
