Michigan Wolverines QB Wilton Speight announces transfer from school

Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight announced Sunday that he will transfer for his final college season.

Speight missed most of this season after fracturing three vertebrae in his neck and upper back during a Sept. 23 game against Purdue.

"I don't know where next will be, and I'll use these next four weeks to figure that out," Speight wrote on his Instagram account. "I'm excited to keep pursuing my dreams in a new jersey, but will forever root for the boys wearing the winged helmet. Go blue!"

Speight also thanked current Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and former coach Brady Hoke.

Speight passed for 3,192 yards, 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions during his Michigan career.

The Wolverines' passing game suffered after his injury as fifth-year senior John O'Korn took over. Redshirt freshman Brandon Peters eventually replaced O'Korn and was lost with a head injury against Wisconsin on Nov. 18.

Speight passed for 2,538 yards and 18 touchdowns against seven interceptions in 2016.

Speight plans to graduate in time to be eligible play at a major school next season.
