Georgia's Terry Godwin makes incredible catch against Notre Dame

Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Wide receiver Terry Godwin tied the Georgia Notre and Notre Dame game with a crazy one-handed catch in the second quarter.

Godwin's dynamite display occurred with 6:47 left before halftime.

The Bulldogs (1-0) trailed the Irish (1-0) 10-3 at the time. Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm faced a third and goal from the five-yard line.

Fromm stepped back to pass against the Irish defense before slinging a fade to the right corner of the end zone. Godwin, a 5-foot-11 junior, locked arms with Irish sophomore cornerback Julian Love for a second before he pushed off. Godwin backpedalled and threw up his right arm to stab the football.

He secured the catch by bringing the ball into his elbow.

Georgia led Notre Dame 20-19 with 3:34 remaining in the game Saturday. Godwin had two catches for 36 yards and a score at that point. Fromm had completed 16-of-29 passes for 141 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Godwin had 397 yards, but didn't score a touchdown on 38 receptions last season for Georgia.

Like any great one-handed snare, Godwin's catch was compared to Odell Beckham Jr.'s trademark reception from a few seasons ago. The NCAA Football Twitter account asked users which catch was better. The Twitterverse still favored Beckham's special snare.
