NFL Draft: Sidney Jones undergoes surgery, expects to play in 2017

Washington Huskies cornerback Sidney Jones, a top NFL prospect, underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles' tendon on Tuesday.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson. Jones is expected to resume running in four months, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jones, widely expected to be a first-round pick, sustained the injury while working out for NFL scouts at the Huskies' recent pro day.

The Diamond Bar, Calif. native offered an update his Twitter account Tuesday.

"Surgery was great. The doctor said that I will for sure be playing this upcoming season. #DontCountMeOut," Jones wrote.

Jones totaled 39 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed and 2 1/2 sacks in 14 games with the Huskies last season. In three seasons at Washington, Jones had 145 stops, eight picks, 21 passes defensed and 8 1/2 sacks.

NFLDraftScout.com ranks Jones as the 13th-best cornerback and the 73rd-best prospect overall in the 2017 draft class.
