SOUTH BEND, Ind., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- The University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Ind., unveiled plans Wednesday for a $400 million expansion of buildings with its football stadium the focal point.
Three multi-use buildings, each taller than the stadium, will be constructed, and will include classrooms, a dining hall, event space and a digital media center, school officials said. The buildings will be attached to the east, west and south sides of the stadium and will offer room for 4,000 more stadium seats to be installed, they said.
The new buildings will not obstruct the view of "Touchdown Jesus" a large mural on the wall of a nearby library, visible from within the stadium, the Chicago Tribune noted.
School President Rev. John Jenkins said construction will begin within one to two years, and will last 33 months as the buildings are erected simultaneously.
