COL FB: UCLA 42, Virginia Tech 12

EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley ran for two touchdowns and passed for two others Tuesday in the Bruins' 42-12 Sun Bowl victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Hundley ran 7 yards for the game's opening touchdown and had a weaving 86-yard run for another in the second period. He connected with Thomas Duarte with an 8-yard TD throw and then teamed with Shaquelle Evans for a 59-yard play in the fourth quarter that gave UCLA (10-3) a 30-point lead.

He finished 16-of-27 passing for 226 yards and the long scoring run contributed to a 10-rush, 161-yard rushing effort on the ground for the sophomore quarterback.

J.C. Coleman ran in from 1 yard out to answer Hundley's first touchdown and get Virginia Tech (8-5) even in the first period before Hundley's 86-yarder left the Bruins up 14-7 at the half.

The Hokies' Michael Branthover kicked a 22-yard field goal for the only points of the third period but UCLA scored four times in the fourth.

Paul Perkins had a 5-yard run for a score and Myles Jack returned an interception 24 yards that put the Bruins ahead 28-10. Virginia Tech got a safety when UCLA punter Sean Covington stepped on the end line but Hundley finished things with his two scoring passes.
