Maryland (7-6) used two long drives to take a 20-17 lead one play into the fourth quarter. Brad Craddock kicked a 33-yard field goal to finish off a nine-play, 81-yard drive, and Dave Stinebaugh hauled in a 2-yard throw from C.J. Brown to finish off a 17-play, 99-yard possession that put Maryland ahead for the first time on the day.

But Marshall (10-4) answered less than 3 minutes later with Essray Taliaferro bulling over from the 7-yard-line that returned the lead to the Thundering Herd.

Marshall twice forced Maryland to punt, eventually taking over at midfield with 5:53 to go. Cato connected with Hoskins, who had six receptions for 104 yards, on back-to-back plays, with the second one resulting in the deciding touchdown.
