Williams, 58, was the quarterback at Grambling State under legendary Coach Eddie Robinson and succeeded Robinson as coach from 1998-2003. He returned as coach in 2011. His overall coaching record is 61-34, winning the SWAC championship four times.

Williams is best known for his nine-year NFL career during which he led the Washington Redskins to a win in Super Bowl XXII, the first African-American quarterback to do so. He was voted the Most Valuable Player of the game.
