MINOT, N.D., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A Minot State, N.D., University linebacker was charged with attempted murder and four other players were arrested after a weekend incident, police say.

Minot Police Department Captain John Klug said Jesse Ili, 21, an MSU linebacker, drew the attempted murder charge after allegedly attacking three officers responding to a suspicious vehicle call late Friday, The Minot Daily News reported Sunday.

"One officer was knocked unconscious by Mr. Ili," Klug told the newspaper. "The action by Ili justified the attempted murder charge. The decision was made by the Ward County State's Attorney."

Klug said all three officers were taken to Trinity Hospital and later released.

Uli was also charged with preventing arrest, assault on a police officer, refusal to halt, possession of marijuana and ingestion of a controlled substance.

The four other arrested players were identified as Kwajo Bonsu, 22, Thomas Boles-Armstrong, 19, Grant Jansen, 18, and Leon L. Ladeaux, 21. All were charged with possession of marijuana and ingestion of a controlled substance, the Daily News reported.

A sixth suspect was still being sought.

A call to comment to Minot State officials wasn't returned, the newspaper said.
