Texas Tech's Tuberville sued for fraud

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Texas Tech football Coach Tommy Tuberville helped orchestrate a scheme to defraud several financiers out of nearly $2 million, the investors allege.

The plaintiffs filed suit in U.S. District Court in Alabama accusing the former Auburn University mentor and partner John David Stroud of misusing the funds of seven investors.

Instead of following a "stated investment strategy," the pair diverted the money in eight investment funds they created to further their own interests, the group alleges.

In all, the investors say they gave $1.76 million to Tuberville and Stroud, including $794,480 from one man.

The alleged victims are suing the pair for damages and right to recover their initial investments.

Tuberville coached the Auburn Tigers from 1999-2008, then was hired by Texas Tech in January of 2010.
