STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The son of fired Penn State football Coach Joe Paterno said Monday he is no longer on the team's coaching staff.
Jay Paterno, who spent 17 years on his father's Nittany Lions staff, said he won't remain with the school under new head Coach Bill O'Brien.
"I will spend the next few weeks consulting with my wife and family to weigh various future options both inside and outside of football," Paterno said.
Jay Paterno's legendary father was dismissed by the school in November in the wake of a child sex abuse scandal surrounding longtime assistant Jerry Sandusky.
"I thank the student-athletes that I've been privileged to coach over the past two decades at four schools," the younger Paterno said in a statement. "Hopefully my career has had an impact and helped you learn about life, and about the commitment and passion it takes to pursue personal excellence.
