STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was arraigned Saturday in Pennsylvania on 40 counts of sex crimes involving underage boys.
Sandusky, 67, was indicted Friday on charges of aggravated sexual assault and other charges involving his alleged contacts with boys he met through a charitable organization he founded while coaching at Penn State.
State College District Judge Leslie Dutchcot set Sandusky's bail at $100,000 and ordered him to appear at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Two high-ranking Penn State officials were also charged in the case. Athletic Director Timothy Curley and Senior Vice President Gary Schultz were charged with perjury and failing to report the incident. The two were ordered to appear in court Monday.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Curley and Schultz allegedly failed to testify truthfully to a grand jury investigating the allegations made against Sandusky by alleged victims and other witnesses.
University President Graham Spanier expressed his support for Curley and Schwartz, but the Post-Gazette said the university had no comment on the charges against Sandusky.
Sandusky retired from coaching in 1999. He was charged with incidents that allegedly occurred between 1994 and 2009.
