COL FB: Penn State 34, Northwestern 24

EVANSTON, Ill., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Matthew McGloin threw two touchdown passes Saturday and Coach Joe Paterno tied an NCAA record in No. 22 Penn State's 34-24 win over Northwestern.

McGloin took over full-time signal-calling duties from Rob Bolden and responded by completing 17-of-26 pass attempts for 192 yards while tailback Silas Redd amassed 164 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries for Penn State (7-1, 4-0 Big Ten).

Paterno tied Eddie Robinson for the most wins as a head coach in Division 1 football history with his 408th victory.

Quarterback Dan Persa led Northwestern (2-5, 0-4), going 26-of-34 through the air for 294 yards and a TD before leaving in the fourth quarter with an injury.

Kain Colter racked up 112 all-purpose yards and Jeremy Every grabbed six passes for 109 yards in the Wildcats' loss.
