March 5 (UPI) -- Cincinnati still beat Wichita State in men's basketball, but Jarron Cumberland added to the Shockers' score when he made a basket for them off of his face.
The Bearcats led 29-22 with 4:38 remaining in the first half when the peculiar play occurred. Shockers senior forward Rashard Kelly put up a 3-pointer, which clanked off of the rim. When the ball came down, it hit off of Shaquille Morris' hands and smacked Cumberland in the face. The ball bounced off of the backboard and directly through the net.
Cincinnati earned a 62-61 win Sunday at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan., claiming the American Athletic Conference title outright. The regular-season conference crown is Cincinnati's first since the program won Conference USA in 2002.
Cumberland scored 11 points and had three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block for the Bearcats (27-4). Morris scored 16 points for the Shockers, tying Landry Shamet for the team-high in scoring in the loss. Junior guard Jacob Evans netted a game-high 19 points for the Bearcats.
