LaVar Ball ends son's collegiate career, removes LiAngelo Ball from UCLA

LiAngelo Ball's collegiate career at UCLA has ended without ever stepping foot on the court for a regular-season game.

His father, LaVar, told ESPN that he will remove LiAngelo from the Bruins' basketball team and the university as a whole on the heels of his son receiving an indefinite suspension for shoplifting in China last month.

"We are exploring other options with Gelo," LaVar Ball told ESPN. "He's out of there."

Ball and fellow freshmen basketball players Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were suspended indefinitely by the school following the shoplifting issue in China. The trio created an international incident that eventually saw President Donald Trump, while visiting Beijing as part of a five-nation Asia tour, personally asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help resolve the case.

"I'm not sitting back and waiting," LaVar Ball told ESPN. "He wasn't punished this bad in China. We get back over here and the consequences were even stiffer than China. So basically they're in jail here."

LaVar Ball told ESPN that he hasn't decided where his son will play this season.

"He's not transferring to another school," he told ESPN. "The plan is now to get Gelo ready for the NBA draft."

LaVar Ball's son, Lonzo, played one season at UCLA before being selected with the second overall pick of the 2017 draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.
