North Carolina senior point guard Joel Berry II sustained a broken right hand last week after punching a door on the heels of losing a video game to teammate Theo Pinson and a team manager.

"He did a silly thing," Tar Heels coach Roy Williams told ESPN on Wednesday of Berry, who was the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four last season.

"That's what it was. One of his greatest characteristics is his competitiveness."

Williams was uncertain as to how long Berry would be sidelined, although the initial prognosis is four weeks.

Sophomore Seventh Woods, freshman Jalek Felton and Pinson will likely see an increase in workload in the absence of Berry, who helped lead the Tar Heels to the national title. He had 22 points in the national championship game victory over Gonzaga.

Berry averaged 14.7 points and 3.6 assists last season for North Carolina, which saw Justin Jackson and Tony Bradley leave early for the NBA.
