Duke Blue Devils: Grayson Allen throws down nasty dunk

Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Senior guard Grayson Allen threw in an amazing one-handed slam-dunk recently at Duke basketball practice.

Duke Basketball posted a video of the play Tuesday on YouTube.

The Blue Devils had their first practice Friday.

Allen sprinted down the right side of the court on the play before catching a full court pass from freshman guard Jordan Goldwire. He took a couple steps before rising up toward the rim. Allen threw the ball through the rim with his right hand over sophomore forward Jack While, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches and weighs 226 pounds.

"I had another year of growth, but I'm still growing and maturing," Allen recently old ESPN. "This is the time to do it, in college. This year, I think I have a lot more perspective on things. I've learned a lot from what I've gone through, but I feel so much different. Better, not only on the court, but my mentality off the court as well."

Allen has once again been awarded the Blue Devils' captaincy for the 2017 season. He lost that title last season after multiple on-the-court infractions, including one that led to a one-game suspension. Allen was involved in multiple tripping incidents, including one on Dec. 21 against Elon.

The Duke captain averaged 21.6 points per game as a sophomore and posted 14.5 points per game last season.

This is far from the first time Allen has shown off his leaping ability. He was crowned as the winner of the 2014 McDonald's All-American dunk contest when he jumped over former teammate Jahlil Okafor to throw down a sick finish.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard has averaged 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 105 games at Duke. He has started 60 games during his tenure with the Blue Devils and shot better than 43 percent from the floor.

Duke faces northwest Missouri State in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils face rival North Carolina for the first time in the 2017 season at 8 p.m., Feb. 3 in Chapel Hill, N.C.

"Our guys are strong, they're enthusiastic," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told the team website. "You can tell the guys are very excited."

Allen is currently projected as a late first-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
