Jans agreed to a four-year contract that will average $275,000 a year plus incentives, CBS Sports reported.

Jans, 48, was previously the head coach at Bowling Green, where he went 21-12 in 2014-15 before being dismissed after the school received a video of Jans acting inappropriately toward a woman at a bar.

He then returned to Gregg Marshall's staff at Wichita State, where he worked before taking the Bowling Green job. He initially had an administrative role when he returned to Wichita State but later became an assistant coach.

At New Mexico State, Jans inherits a team that returns four of five starters from a squad that went 28-6, setting a school record for wins while enjoying a 20-game winning streak. The Aggies finished second in the Western Athletic Conference with an 11-3 record but won the conference tournament. They lost to Baylor 91-73 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
