Kansas Jayhawks star freshman Josh Jackson to enter NBA Draft

Kansas freshman Josh Jackson is heading to the NBA.

Jackson, who led the Jayhawks to the Elite Eight in his lone season in Lawrence, announced on Monday his intentions to enter the NBA Draft in a statement to the Associated Press.

The 6-foot-8 swingman reportedly will sign with the Wasserman Media Group and be represented by former NBA guard B.J. Armstrong.

"After thoroughly consulting with my family, I have decided to enter the 2017 NBA draft and pursue my dream of playing professional basketball," Jackson said in a statement to the AP. "I am very thankful for all of the support I have received from my coaches and teammates at Kansas and I look forward to starting my career in the NBA."

Jackson was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year after averaging 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds, which both ranked second on the team.

In helping Kansas win the Big 12 regular-season title en route to a 31-5 record, the Detroit native shot 51.3 percent from the floor overall and 37.8 percent from 3-point range.
