Austin Peay coach Dave Loos has taken a leave of absence as he continues his battle against cancer that was discovered during the summer.
Loos, 69, missed Thursday night's game against Tennessee Tech after the school announced his leave of absence earlier in the day. It marked the first time he wasn't on the sideline for an Austin Peay game since 1990.
Loos is undergoing chemotherapy for a cancerous lymph node. The issue with the lymph node was discovered when Loos underwent surgery in July to remove a malignant tumor on his colon.
Loos spent 18 days in the hospital after the surgery. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined this time around.
Assistant coach Jay Bowen is filling in for Loos, who is in his 27th season as Governors coach.
"Our primary concern right now is the health of Coach Loos," Austin Peay athletic director Ryan Ivey said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with him and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery."
Loos has guided Austin Peay to four NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure. He has a 413-403 career record.
The Governors are 4-12 this season and have lost 10 straight games after falling 76-67 to Tennessee Tech on Thursday.
