MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- DeAndre Mathieu and Maurice Walker both scored 18 points Wednesday to lead an offensive show that brought Minnesota an 81-68 win over No. 8 Wisconsin.
The 81 points were the most the Golden Gophers had scored against Wisconsin in 20 years. Minnesota shot 58 percent from the field against the normally defensive-minded Badgers, who have lost three in a row.
Minnesota overcame the early loss of leading scorer Andre Hollins, who left with an ankle injury.
Malik Smith added 14 points for Minnesota (15-5, 4-3 Big Ten Conference). The Gophers finished a stretch of four straight games against teams ranked in the top 15 and they went 2-2 in those contests.
Wisconsin (16-3, 3-3 Big Ten) was led by Sam Dekker with 20 points.
