Kansas, Cincinnati jump in basketball poll

MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Arizona continues to lead the USA Today coaches' basketball poll while Kansas and Cincinnati make the biggest gains of the week in the poll.

Arizona (18-0) is given 30 of the 32 first-place votes with the other two coaches putting the Wildcats second. Syracuse (18-0) remains second but picks up both of the other first-place mentions.

Two ranked teams lost twice last week and one of those was Wisconsin, which slips from third to No. 8. The other was Baylor, which plummets 10 places to 23rd. Iowa State is off seven and Ohio State six while Memphis and Creighton fall five spots this week.

Kansas, which beat ranked Iowa State and Oklahoma State last week, moves to 11th and Cincinnati, unranked until last week, jumps to 16th. There are also solid gains by Iowa (six places), Louisville (five) and San Diego State (four).

Michigan State (17-1) edges up to take the No. 3 spot vacated by Wisconsin while Wichita State (19-0) is fourth and Villanova (16-1) comes in No. 5.

Florida (15-2) takes over the sixth place with San Diego State (16-1) in seventh, Wisconsin (16-2) down to No. 8 while Louisville (16-3) is voted ninth and Iowa (15-3) is 10th.

Kansas (13-4) settles in at 11th with Oklahoma State (15-3) and Massachusetts (16-1) tying for12th. Kentucky (13-4) drops two to 14th and Ohio State (15-3) is No. 15.

Cincinnati (17-2) moves up to 16th ahead of No. 17 Iowa State (14-3). Duke (14-4) improves to 18th ahead of No. 19 Pittsburgh (16-2) and 20th-ranked St. Louis (17-2), which is ranked for the first time this season.

Gonzaga (16-3) is up three places to 21st with Memphis (13-4) down to 22nd, Baylor (13-4) at No. 23 and Creighton (15-3) in 24th. Oklahoma (14-4) and Michigan (13-4) are also new poll entries this week and tie for 25th.

Pac-12 members Colorado and UCLA drop from the Top 25.

Michigan's time in the Top 25 will quickly be tested with game this week with a game Wednesday against Iowa and a match Saturday at Michigan State. Creighton plays at Villanova and Baylor is at Kansas Monday in the other key games this week.
