SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Trevor Cooney led a second-half surge Friday that finally pushed No. 2 and unbeaten Syracuse to a 75-54 victory over High Point.
The Panthers took a 40-39 lead 3 1/2 minutes deep in the second half, but Syracuse soon put an end to the upset bid by holding High Point scoreless for almost 10 full minutes. The Orange produced 17 points during that stretch to blow the game open and improve their record to 11-0.
Cooney hit 6-of-7 from the field and scored 17 points, leading a 53 percent team shooting effort. C.J. Fair added 15 points while both Jerami Grant and Tyler Ennis had 10. Ennis also contributed a season-best nine assists.
High Point (3-7) was led by 10 points from Devante Wallace.
Heading into a busy Saturday in college basketball, there are 12 teams left unbeaten. Syracuse is joined on that list by Villanova, Massachusetts, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Toledo, Wichita State, Oregon, Missouri, St. Mary's and No. 1 Arizona.
