KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 12 (UPI) -- Matt Brown was fired Tuesday as the men's basketball coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City after the Kangaroos' 24-loss season.
UMKC was 8-24 overall and 5-11 in the Summit League this past season. The Kangaroos are to join the Western Athletic Conference next academic year.
"Matt ran our men's basketball program with dignity," UMKC Director of Athletics Tim Hall said. "He put student-athlete welfare and academics in the forefront. The coaches and student-athletes have represented UMKC and Kansas City in a first-class manner under his watch and I personally wish him nothing but the best."
The Kangaroos were 64-122 in six seasons under Brown. They finished above .500 once, ending up 16-14 in 2010-11. UMKC marked the first head coaching position for Brown.
