CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Trey Burke struck for 19 points Sunday and No. 2 Michigan made a case for the nation's top ranking with a 74-60 spanking of Illinois.
Burke dished off five assists and grabbed five rebounds for the Wolverines (19-1, 6-1 Big Ten), who with the victory became likely to emerge as the country's top-ranked squad.

Their opportunity comes after Miami-Florida's rout of current No. 1 Duke Wednesday.
Nik Stauskas scored 14 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. had 12 and Glenn Robinson III had 12 points and six rebounds for Michigan, which has won three straight since a Jan. 13 loss to Ohio State.
Brandon Paul netted 15 points while D.J. Richardson added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Illini (15-6, 2-5).
