Ariz. forward Perry charged with assault

TUCSON, April 21 (UPI) -- University of Arizona basketball forward Jesse Perry has been charged with felony assault against a former girlfriend, Tucson police say.

Perry, a senior who started all 35 Wildcats games this past season, surrendered to police late Friday on a charge of domestic violence-aggravated assault, authorities said.

A statement said Perry's arrest came after an adult female was treated and released at an area hospital for various injuries and told medical officials she had been hurt in an assault.

An investigation revealed the woman had been visiting Perry when an argument broke out and the player allegedly physically assaulted the victim, police alleged.

Authorities said the university's athletics department helped to locate the 22-year-old St. Louis native, who averaged 12.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season.
