J'Covan Brown to enter NBA draft

AUSTIN, Texas, April 2 (UPI) -- Texas guard J'Covan Brown, the leading scorer in the Big 12 Conference last season, said he will forgo his senior season and enter the NBA draft.

Brown said Monday he would complete work toward his degree at Texas but added it was time to provide for his daughter.

"It was always my dream to be a Longhorn and I have lived that dream and become a better person," Brown said. "There were a lot of reasons to come back to school next year, most importantly getting my degree and being around my teammates every day.

"But the time has come for me to pursue a career in professional basketball and take care of my daughter, Jordyn."

Brown averaged 20.1 points over 34 games in leading the conference in scoring. He hit 36.9 percent of his shots from 3-point range. He was a starter as a freshman, averaging 9.6 points a game, but came off the bench as a sophomore, when he average 10.4 points a game.
