COL BKB: Brigham Young 78, Iona 72

DAYTON, Ohio, March 14 (UPI) -- Noah Hartsock hit a late 3-pointer Tuesday that gave Brigham Young a 78-72 win over Iona in the First Four round of the NCAA tournament.

Hartsock, who led the Cougars (26-8) with 28 points, scored from long range with 2:28 to play in the game and gave BYU the lead for good after the Cougars rallied from 25 points down.

Brigham Young padded its lead the rest of the way with five free throws and a layup by Brock Zylstra while Iona (25-8) was limited to a single field goal.

The Cougars will take their place in the West regional and take on Marquette in the second round.

Brandon Davies added 18 points and 15 rebounds for BYU. Damarcus Harrison scored 12.

Scott Machado led Iona with 15 points and 10 assists. Jermel Jenkins scored 13.

Iona scored 55 points in the first 16 minutes of the game but only 17 in the final 17 minutes.
