COL BKB: UMass 101, Miss. St. 96 (2OT)

STARKVILLE, Miss., March 13 (UPI) -- Chaz Williams fired in 28 points Tuesday and Massachusetts hung tough in a 101-96 double-overtime win over Mississippi State in an NIT first-round game.

Sean Carter contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds as the fifth-seeded Minutemen (23-11) opened the second overtime with a 7-2 run and went on to post the hard-earned victory.

Javorn Farrell put in 16 points, Terrell Vinson added 12, and Raphiael Putney logged a double-double of 10 and 16 rebounds for UMass, which advances to face No. 1 seed Seton Hall in the second round.

Arnett Moultrie pumped in 34 points, while Dee Bost supplied 20 and 13 assists for the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (21-12).
