PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Khalif Wyatt scored the game's final points on a layup with 16 seconds to go in overtime Wednesday, giving No. 25 Temple a 90-88 win over Massachusetts.
The Owls held Massachusetts scoreless after Raphiael Putney gave the Minutemen an 88-85 lead by making two free throws with 1:12 remaining.
Wyatt then converted a 3-point play before hitting the game-winning shot. Jesse Morgan misfired on a jumper for Massachusetts with 10 seconds left and Maxie Esho also missed on a tip-in try.
Wyatt scored 26 points while hitting 17-of-18 attempts from the foul line. Temple attempted 40 free throws and made 30 of them.
The Owls (23-6, 12-3 Atlantic 10 Conference) need only to defeat last-place Fordham Saturday to secure the league's undisputed regular-season championship. Micheal Eric contributed 19 points and 15 rebounds for Temple.
Massachusetts (19-10, 8-7) was led by Chaz Williams with 26 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. The Minutemen overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 2 minutes of the second half to force overtime.
