COL BKB: Michigan State 66, Minnesota 61

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Keith Appling's two foul shots with 32 seconds left put No. 6 Michigan State ahead Wednesday and the Spartans won their sixth straight, beating Minnesota 66-61.

After Appling had given the Spartans their first advantage since the opening minute of the second half, Minnesota's Austin Hollins missed a 3-pointer. Appling then hit two more free throws for a 62-58 lead with 19 seconds remaining and he converted two more with 7 seconds left.

Draymond Green led Michigan State with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. The Spartans are a game in front of Ohio State and Michigan in the Big Ten Conference race.

Appling had 13 points in boosting the Spartans to 23-5 for the season and to 12-3 in the Big Ten.

Minnesota (17-11, 5-10) has lost four in a row and six out of eight. Hollins scored 17 points for the Golden Gophers.
