SAN DIEGO, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Jamaal Franklin and Chase Tapley combined to make three late free throws Wednesday that brought No. 17 San Diego State a 58-56 win over Boise State.
In a wild contest that resulted in the Aztecs winning for the 12th time in 13 games, Boise State built a 12-point lead early in the second half. The Broncos then went scoreless for more than 9e minutes and San Diego State took a seven-point advantage with less than 6 minutes left.
Boise State closed within a point on a layup by Derrick Marks with 24 seconds to go but Franklin made two foul shots with 18 seconds to play.
After the Broncos again moved within one on Tre Nichols' layup with 8 seconds left, Tapley made 1-of-2 from the line. That gave Boise State a shot at a win with a 3-point attempt, but Thomas Bropleh missed a long-range try just before the buzzer.
Franklin led San Diego State with 16 points and Tapley had 14. The Aztecs (19-3, 5-1 Mountain West Conference) bounced back from a loss to Colorado State and stayed tied with UNLV atop the league standings.
Anthony Drmic paced Boise State (10-11, 0-6) with 17 points.
