ALBUQUERQUE, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Xavier Thames ignited San Diego State on a 13-point run in the second half Wednesday that lifted the No. 16 Aztecs to a 75-70 win over New Mexico.
The Lobos owned a one-point lead before San Diego State put together its hot stretch that put the Aztecs in front 59-48 with less than 8 minutes remaining.

Thames made 7-of-11 shots from the field while Chase Tapley and Jamaal Franklin added 12 each for the Aztecs (16-2, 2-0 Mountain West Conference).
San Diego State shot 48 percent from the field, made 9-of-20 from 3-point range and committed only six turnovers.
Phillip McDonald scored 20 points off the bench to lead New Mexico (15-3, 1-1).
