HONOLULU, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Joston Thomas had a shot fall in the final second of overtime Friday, giving the Hawaii Warriors an 84-82 upset of the No. 15 Xavier Musketeers.
It was the third consecutive loss for Xavier (8-3) since a brawl that ended its Dec. 10 game with Cincinnati. Two players remain suspended because of the fight but two others -- Mark Lyons and Tu Holloway -- have returned to the lineup.
Xavier, which scored the first 12 points of the game, led 61-46 with 13:52 to go before Hawaii (6-5) cut the deficit to two with an 18-5 run.
After Kenny Frease missed a pair of potentially clinching free throws for the Musketeers, the Warriors forced overtime when Hauns Brereton connected on a 3-point shot with 2 seconds to play.
With the score tied at 82-82 with 12 seconds left in overtime, Hawaii worked the ball close to the basket for Thomas. His shot circled the rim before dropping through with 0.2 seconds left.
That shot gave Thomas 24 points to go with nine rebounds. Vander Joaquim added 20 points, including eight in the second-half run that pulled Hawaii close.
Holloway led all scorers with 26 points and Lyons chipped in 18 for the Musketeers.
