UCLA's Anderson gets 2-game suspension

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- UCLA basketball guard Jerime Anderson will miss two games due to an NCAA suspension following his guilty plea on misdemeanor charges, the school said Monday.

Anderson last week reached a plea agreement after being charged with appropriation of lost property and trespassing. He will serve 300 hours of community service during a two-year period, Bruins Coach Ben Howland said.

The senior -- who averaged 5.1 points, 2.6 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 34 games last season -- will miss an exhibition game and the Nov. 11 season opener against Loyola Marymount.

"Now that the legal proceedings in conjunction with Jerime's arrest have been finalized, I am reinstating him to the team with a two-game suspension," Howland said. "Jerime has been very remorseful in acknowledging his mistake and accepting responsibility for his actions. I believe he has learned a valuable lesson."
