U.S. skier Ted Ligety wins second Olympic gold medal

The 36-year-old skier was the 2006 Olympic gold medalist in the combined giant slalom and is a four-time World Cup champion in the event.

SOCHI , Russia, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. skier Ted Ligety won his second Olympic gold medal in the Alpine Skiing Men's Giant Slalom event Wednesday.

The 29-year-old wont first place with a total time of 2:45.29 seconds. He was joined on the podium by Fench skiers Steve Missilier and Alexis Pinturault, who finished 0.48 seconds and 0.64 seconds after him, respectively.

Sochi Winter Olympic Highlights February 19th

"To be able to win today when I knew I had a very good chance, that's an awesome feeling," Ligety said. "The pressure for me in giant slalom is bigger actually because it's my best chance at winning a medal … but I've learned a lot about dealing with that kind of pressure."

Ligety was a gold medalist in the combined giant slalom during the 2006 Torino games, he's also a four-time World Cup champion in the event.
