Oklahoma hires Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy as football general manager

Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Oklahoma hired Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy as general manager of the Sooners' football program, they announced Wednesday.

Nagy will work alongside coach Brent Venables to build the Sooners roster, while assisting in player evaluation, recruiting and more.

"This is a new era in intercollegiate athletics at one of the greatest college football programs in the country," Nagy said in a statement. "The legacy of excellence that precedes my arrival is a testament to the leadership at OU and the university's commitment to execute at a championship level.

"I am honored to bring my experience and work ethic to this program and am confident that through collaboration and effort, we can achieve excellent results."

Nagy previously worked in scout for the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and Washington Redskins.

The Sooners went 6-7 last season after being 10-3 in 2023. They are 22-17 in three seasons under Venables. The team was 55-10 in five seasons under former coach Lincoln Riley from 2017 through 2021.

Nagy is the latest hire in a string of recent high-profile general manager additions for collegiate athletic programs. North Carolina hired former NFL executive Michael Lombardi to serve as their football general manager.

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck holds the same role at Stanford.
