Dog bites top golfer Nelly Korda, forces withdrawal from tournament

June 28 (UPI) -- A dog bit and injured Nelly Korda, the No. 1 golfer in the world, resulting in her withdrawal from a Ladies European Tour event next week in Hemel Hempstead, England, she announced Friday.

"I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week's Ladies European Tour tournament in London," Korda wrote on Instagram. "On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recovery fully.

"I apologize to the Ladies European Tour, the sponsors and my fans for my absence. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon."

Korda, who won her second major title in April at the 2024 Chevron Championship, missed the third-round cut earlier this month at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in Sammamish, Wash., outside Seattle. She also missed the cut in May at the U.S. Women's Open.

The Amundi Evian Championship, the fourth of five women's majors, will be held July 11 to 14 at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France.

Korda also is to participate in the Paris 2024 women's golf tournament, which will be held Aug. 7 to 10 at Le Golf National in Guyancourt. France. Korda won gold at the women's tournament at Tokyo 2020.
