Golf: Bryson DeChambeau, Aaron Rodgers beat Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson in The Match

July 7 (UPI) -- PGA Tour star Bryson DeChambeau showed off his power while Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sank clutch putts to beat Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson in Capital One's The Match.

DeChambeau and Rodgers won the celebrity golf showdown 3 and 2 on Tuesday at The Reserve Golf Course at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Mont.

The charity event was tied through nine holes. DeChambeau and Rodgers then went on a run of three-consecutive birdies to take control. Rodgers made a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 16 to seal the victory.

"It was a bit difficult," DeChambeau told TNT. "I was able to get my partner on the greens. He was making everything."

DeChambeau, the No. 6 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, chipped in a 10-foot shot on No. 1 to give his team a one shot lead. Mickelson and Brady then tied the score on the second hole and went up one shot due to poor putts from their foes on No. 3. The celebrity teams halved the next two holes.

DeChambeau and Rodgers tied the score on No. 6, but Mickelson and Brady retook the lead on No. 7. DeChambeau and Rodgers won No. 8 to tie the score on the front nine. Rodgers' clutch birdie putts then sparked their match-winning run on hole Nos. 10 through 12.

The Match format started when Mickelson bested Tiger Woods in a head-to-head battle in 2018 in Las Vegas. Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning then beat Mickelson and Brady in the second edition of the celebrity showdown in 2020 in Hobe Sound, Fla.

Mickelson won his second The Match title when he teamed up with Charles Barkley to beat Manning and Stephen Curry in November in Oro Valley, Ariz.

Barkley was a big part of Tuesday's event, providing commentary as a broadcaster. The NBA legend frequently fired jabs at the players and the celebrity guests who joined the broadcasts, which included Larry Fitzgerald, Baker Mayfield and Rob Gronkowski.

The players and commentators also jabbed Rodgers about his hold out from the Packers, but the reigning NFL MVP didn't offer any insight into if he will play for the team in 2021.

"I don't know," Rodgers said. "We'll see. We'll see, won't we?"
