May 15 (UPI) -- John Daly responded after he received criticism for his plan to use a golf cart at the 2019 PGA Championship from Tiger Woods and others.

Daly, 53, has arthritis in his right knee and applied to use a cart for the tournament through the Americans with Disabilities Act. He also cited diabetes as another reason for car use.

"As far as JD taking a cart, well, I walked with a broken leg, so," Woods told reporters Tuesday.

Woods, 43, was referencing his victory at the 2008 U.S. Open, when he won the major tournament despite having a broken leg and torn ACL.

Daly told USA Today that he wishes Woods knew "all the facts" before commenting on Daly's cart request. The Golf Channel also

"Might have been a different comment,'' Daly said. "As well as the Golf Channel Wednesday morning, when they bashed me pretty good, and a few others."

Daly told USA Today that he is not angry at Woods for the comment. He called Woods the best player he has ever seen or played with.

Daly said Woods was able to have his knee fixed, but a doctor can't replace his knee due to a different issue. The golfer said the pain in his knee prevents him from walking downhill.

"If my knee was broke, I would have had it fixed," Daly said. "But my situation is totally different. It's painful as hell is all I can say. As was Tiger's, I'm sure.''

Daly withdrew from the U.S. Senior Open in 2018 after his cart request was denied. He has only made the cut once at the PGA Championship since 2007. Daly tees off with Y.E. Yang and Rich Beem on tee No. 10 at 12:54 p.m. Thursday at the Bethpage Black Course in Old Bethpage, N.Y.
