Boston Bruins take 3-0 series lead over Carolina Hurricanes

May 15 (UPI) -- The Boston Bruins picked up a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, and are one win away from reaching the Stanley Cup final.

Chris Wagner and Brad Marchand scored 5:07 apart in the second period and Tuukka Rask stopped 35 shots as the Bruins grabbed a commanding 3-0 series lead Tuesday night.

"This year, I feel like we really have each other's backs," Rask told reporters. "We've been in some tight games, and then our depth comes in, and we score some goals and we take over the games."

Calvin de Haan scored the Hurricanes' lone goal and backup goalie Curtis McElhinney made 29 saves in place of Petr Mrazek, who allowed 10 goals in the first two games of the series.

Only four teams in NHL history have rallied from a 3-0 series deficit, with no team accomplishing the feat since the Los Angeles Kings in 2014.

"There's no way around it. There's no way to sugarcoat it," Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters. "We got kicked in the you-know-where."

The Bruins will go for the series sweep in Game 4 on Thursday night at PNC Arena.
