Arkansas defensive tackle Briston Guidry retiring after seven knee surgeries

May 15 (UPI) -- University of Arkansas defensive tackle Briston Guidry said he is retiring from football after undergoing seven knee surgeries in the last few years.

Guidry announced his decision Tuesday night on Twitter.

"The game of football has blessed me in so many ways," Guidry wrote. "I gained so many friends/brothers, relationships, and a free education. ... I have no regrets, I did everything in my power to keep playing."

Guidry, a rising redshirt junior, played in 19 games the last two seasons. He finished his college career with 36 tackles, three fumble recoveries and 2.5 sacks.

Guidry was considered the No. 9 player in Louisiana by ESPN coming out of high school. He chose Arkansas over LSU, Alabama and Miami, according to 247 Sports.

"I will forever be a Razorback," Guidry wrote.
