Hungary captures 5,000m speed skating gold

Hungary claimed first place in the 5,000 short track speed skating relay Thursday at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games, racing to a time of 6:31.971 for the country's first winter gold medal.

The Hungarian team, made up of Shaoang Liu, Shaolin Sandor Liu, Viktor Knoch and Csaba Burjan, outraced China (6:32.035) and Canada (6:32.282), respectively.

South Korea placed fourth in the event at 6:43.118.

"These kids have become legends today," President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee Krisztian Kulcsar said on Hungarian television after the victory.

"It was a miracle, it was dazzling... I looked, I hardly wanted to believe it ... Knowing that they could do it is one thing.. They kept their cool until the end!"
