"It was an awesome run. Now I have my second gold medal," Mayer said. "It is the most special."

After finishing ninth in downhill, where he won four years ago in Sochi, on Thursday, Mayer regrouped himself for the title with a time of 1 minute and 24.44 seconds.

"I do not know what to say. It's just unbelievable. I've been Olympic champion in super-G. I have no words for that," Mayer said.

"It's always very tough especially when we are in the market, we do not know the hills, which always makes us worry."

Beat Feuz of Switzerland, downhill bronze medalist, bagged the silver of the event, 0.13 second adrift of Mayer.

Norway's Kjetil Jansrud was another 0.05 second behind third position.
