Lindsey Vonn says she would not accept invitation to White House

Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Gold medalist downhill skier Lindsey Vonn recently said that if she received an invitation to the White House, she would say no.

Vonn was asked what she would do if she wins a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and receives an invitation to visit President Donald Trump.

"Absolutely not. Nope. But I have to win to be invited so -- no, actually I think every U.S. team member is invited," Vonn told CNN.

She explained before giving the answer that she takes the Olympics "very seriously."

"Well I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the President," Vonn told CNN. "I take the Olympics very seriously and what they mean and what they represent, what walking under our flag means in the opening ceremonies. And you know, I want to represent our country well and I don't think there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that."

Vonn, 33, is competing in her first Olympic Games since she won the downhill title in 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.

Former Olympic diver Greg Louganis also commented on Vonn's take. Lougainis is a four-time Olympic gold medalist.

"Bravo @lindseyvonn for the courage to speak up for principle, and to putting country first, you are a #champion in more ways than one!" Louganis tweeted Wednesday.

The 2018 Winter Olympics kick off Feb. 9 in Pyeongchang.
