Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Prosecutors are seeking 60 years in prison for former Team USA gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar -- the man accused of molesting McKayla Maroney, Ali Raisman and Gabby Douglas.
Nassar, 54, will be sentenced for child pornography crimes on Dec. 7 after pleading guilty last week to molesting teens and younger girls in two other cases in state court.
Although Nassar only pleaded guilty to pornography charges in the federal case, prosecutors argued his previous history as a sexual predator should factor into his sentencing.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Lewis, Nassar "has led a double life."
"On the surface, he was a respected, world-renowned expert for elite athletes," Lewis said. "He was a medical doctor, a husband and a father. But underneath this veneer lurked a predator."
"For 20 years, the defendant used his position and authority to sexually exploit children. He took advantage of almost every opportunity to do so. His patients, his friends' children, and the Internet were there for the plucking."
Nassar's accusers include Olympic gold-medalists including Maroney, Raisman and Douglas who said they were molested by Nassar under the guise of undergoing medical treatments and exams.
Investigators found more than 37,000 images of child porn on electronic devices belonging to Nassar. The former doctor admitted he had dumped his computer and had his laptop memory cleaned to obstruct the investigation.
However, the hard drives were found because the trash truck was late in Nassar's neighborhood one day.
Nassar was accused of molesting at least 130 patients.
