SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was hit in the head with a pitch leading off the sixth inning and left the game Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park.
On a 2-1 count, Arizona rookie left-hander Anthony Banda hit Belt with a 79 mph curveball. Belt turned away from the high pitch and was struck in the helmet.
Banda's pitch knocked Belt's helmet off, and he went to the ground and appeared to be dazed. After being examined by Giants trainer Dave Groeschner, Belt walked off the field and was replaced by pinch-runner Joe Panik.
